Emerson School is significant under Criterion A in the area of Education for its nearly forty years of service as a school for children in the Muddy Creek area of southeastern Sublette County, Wyoming. The school is also significant in the area of Social History for its role hosting a variety of programs and events for the surrounding ranching community. The building is additionally eligible under Criterion C in the area of Architecture as a well-preserved example of a one-room rural school of log construction. All areas of significance are at the local level. The period of significance extends from 1917 to 1943 and 1950 to 1959 for Education and Social History (classes did not meet at Emerson School from 1944 to 1949) and 1917 for Architecture. The school retains a high level of historic integrity.
