The John Clymer Residence is eligible for the National Register because it is locally significant under Criterion A within the area of significance of community development in Teton Village, Wyoming. The house was part of the first residential subdivision in the area, which is notable for its modern architecture and a departure from the traditional log cabins that are more prevalent in the older areas of Jackson Hole. The Clymer Residence has statewide significance under Criterion B for its association with John Clymer, a nationally recognized artist who is associated with the development of the Western Art genre. This house was used as his only residence and studio space during this portion of his career, and is the only extant building with this association. The Clymer Residence is also locally significant under Criterion C in the area of significance of architecture, for the level of integrity of all seven aspects it retains as a Modern Contemporary style house, self-designed by John Clymer. This style of architecture was especially popular in the Teton Village area and follows the national trend during the 1960s and 1970s of hybrid Mid-century Modern and Swiss Chalet architecture near ski areas.
