An opening reception for a photographic display by Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources Photographer Richard Collier is December 5 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Barrett Building in Cheyenne.
This display features photographs taken by Collier during his 34-year career primarily with the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office.
Wyoming has 562 listings in the National Register of Historic Places representing 5,723 individual resources. These resources include sites, buildings, structures, objects and districts. Collier has photographed nearly all National Register properties in the state during his career.
Much of Collier’s work with the SHPO has been to take photographs meeting National Park Service Standards for inclusion in the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) and the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER). The national collection is maintained by the Library of Congress and can be found on-line at http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/hh/.
This photography is standard practice when a building or structure is planned to be demolished, moved or modified. These photographs are many times the only documentation remaining of past important buildings and structures.
The Barrett Building is located at 2301 Central Avenue in Cheyenne.
The Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office documents, preserves, and promotes Wyoming’s heritage with our preservation partners.
