  • Alpenhof Lodge

    Read All About It:

Constructed in 1965, the Alpenhof Lodge was the first hotel to open in Teton Village, which helped to establish Jackson Hole as a year-round tourist destination. The development of Teton Village and the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort played a pivotal role in shaping the economy, culture, and development of Jackson Hole. Hotels like the Alpenhof were a crucial part of the success of the ski industry that helped to diversify tourism to include the winter season. The lodge was designed by architect Otto Burmell and is a prominent example of the Swiss-Alpine architecture that was envisioned by the early developers of Teton Village.

  • John Clymer Residence

    Read All About It:

The John Clymer Residence is eligible for the National Register because it is locally significant under Criterion A within the area of significance of community development in Teton Village, Wyoming. The house was part of the first residential subdivision in the area, which is notable for its modern architecture and a departure from the traditional log cabins that are more prevalent in the older areas of Jackson Hole. The Clymer Residence has statewide significance under Criterion B for its association with John Clymer, a nationally recognized artist who is associated with the development of the Western Art genre. This house was used as his only residence and studio space during this portion of his career, and is the only extant building with this association. The Clymer Residence is also locally significant under Criterion C in the area of significance of architecture, for the level of integrity of all seven aspects it retains as a Modern Contemporary style house, self-designed by John Clymer. This style of architecture was especially popular in the Teton Village area and follows the national trend during the 1960s and 1970s of hybrid Mid-century Modern and Swiss Chalet architecture near ski areas.
