The Campbell County State Experiment Farm, Exhibition Hall (1934) is located in the CAM-PLEX Park, City of Gillette, in the northcentral portion of the Powder River Basin in northeastern Wyoming. The building is located at 910 Doubletree Lane on the eastern edge of Gillette on the south side of State Route 51. It is a part of the former Campbell County State Experiment Farm, one of nine substations of the Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station, located in Laramie, Wyoming. The former facility consisted of approximately 740 acres with a complex of buildings serving various agricultural functions. The purpose of the facility was to plant a variety of crops, grasses, and trees to determine the ones that were best suited to the climate and soils particular to northeast region of Wyoming. Their findings aided local farmers in having a higher degree of success in their agricultural pursuits. The Exhibition Hall and Assembly Room occupies what was once the central quadrant of the facility, where the support buildings were located. The support buildings included the Superintendent’s House (razed), a large machine shed (extant), a horse barn (razed), and a poultry shed (razed). Paved parking lots have since been added to the site, but a large number of shelterbelt trees and shrubs dating from as early as the late 1920s remain onsite, creating a park-like environment. These shelterbelts serve to visually screen the Exhibition Hall from State Route 51 and associated traffic. The Exhibition Hall retains good physical integrity, as it has not received any major additions since it was constructed, and it retains the original shiplap siding. Windows have been replaced, but they retain the same bay size and shape, and the replacement windows are similar in their double-hung configuration. The biggest exterior change has been the construction of a concrete handicap ramp on the south side of the building, providing access to the south pedestrian entrance. The Exhibition Hall is currently called the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Building, and a sign in the front lawn designates it as such.
